Italcementi new brand: it becomes Heidelberg Materials
Italcementi, the historic name in Italian cement, is now part of a global group called Heidelberg Materials. This transition marks a fundamental step in our evolution as a company and as an industry, moving toward a more sustainable and technologically advanced way of doing business.
The shift to the new brand completes a journey that began in 2016 when Italcementi joined the HeidelbergCement Group, the second-largest cement producer globally, with over 3,000 production sites in more than 50 countries. Last year, the group changed its name to Heidelberg Materials, reflecting its commitment to a broader range of innovative and sustainable construction materials and solutions. The goal is to go beyond traditional cement, embracing a future where environmental responsibility and digitalization play a crucial role.
Decarbonization is a key focus for the cement industry. To achieve carbon neutrality in production processes, significant investments are required. Technologies like Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) or Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) capture CO2 emissions for storage or reuse in other industrial processes. Heidelberg Materials has set ambitious targets, including halving its CO2 emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This transformation extends not only to processes but also to the development of innovative materials that will revolutionize the construction industry.
In addition to sustainability, digitalization is reshaping the construction sector. Heidelberg Materials is at the forefront of this change, offering new opportunities to customers through digital solutions. The company’s operations in Italy continue the legacy of Italcementi and Calcestruzzi, contributing to the country’s economic development. With 10 cement production plants, 4 grinding centers, and over 120 concrete production facilities, Heidelberg Materials operates nationwide, combining history, knowledge, and innovation
