Large version of the CAREL reverse osmosis system has been developed for treating water intended for use with high-capacity steam humidifiers, such as gaSteam, and for the entire range of adiabatic atomisers, humiFog Multizone Touch among them. Thanks to the use of specific osmotic membranes, the ROL unit is able to purify water from all the substances dissolved in it, such as mineral salts, chlorides, silicon, iron and even microbes and bacteria. The water produced (permeate) is pure, characterized by a very low conductivity value, and with physical, chemical and organic characteristics suitable for humidifiers. As a result, less maintenance is required, the accumulation of mineral salts is minimized, powders of mineral salts are not released and hygienic conditions improve.
WTS Large is available in six sizes: 160, 320, 460, 600, 1000 and 1200 l/h, all of them involving the same footprint. The RO water is stored in the external floor-based expansion vessel at a pressure between 2 and 4 bars or in a buffer tank with a booster pump when the distance in height to humidifiers is higher than 10 m. Downstream of the expansion vessel an optional UV sterilizer can be installed to guarantee the highest level of hygiene, ensuring the lack of biological contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, moulds, spores and yeasts. The prefiltration via a carbon block filter helps eliminate the contents of chlorine in mains water, that would be harmful to the membranes over time. The RO water conductivity, measured by a calibrated sensor and displayed on the main screen of the controller, provides information about the quality of permeate and of the effectiveness of the membranes. The unit is also equipped with a conductivity sensor at the raw water inlet. The flow rates of permeate, concentrate (drain) and recirculate water can be calibrated thanks to the use of adjustable needle valves. A dosing pump injects a descaler compliant with EN 15040 or NSF/ANSI 61, aimed at avoiding the build-up of limescale on the membranes, while bearing in mind the compatibility with human consumption. The antiscalant solution allows the ROL unit to operate with a water hardness up to 500 ppm of CaCO3 (50 °fH) without the use of a softener. The electronic controller controls operation in automatic mode, allowing the user to interface rapidly and intuitively thanks to the display on the machine. The design of WTS Large optimizes field service, maximizes the recovery value of the system (that is the ratio between the water produced and the water used), simplifies installation and start-up operations, facilitates accessibility to the components of the system for monitoring and maintenance operations.
