Niagara Parks Power Station

Design Firm VG Plus Architects/The Ventin Group Toronto Ontario. David Lasker Photography. Niagara Parks Power Station was built in 1906 and shut down 2006. It reopened in September 2021 as a historical building now open to the public for tours and attractions. Wilsonart materials were used in the renovation of this building which included Solid Surface, THINSCAPE and High Pressure Laminate. The project was awarded the 2021 Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage award for excellence in conservation. Wilsonart Solid Surface in Beige Travertine 9236SS and Grey Lace 9224SS were used at the service desks at the entrance and in the gift shop. Solid surface material allowed the designer and fabricator to create a "wavy" desk front that mimics waves or water flow as this is a power station which uses water flow to generate power. Beige Travertine 9236SS was also used as countertops for both service desks. Satin Stainless 4830 laminate was used for cabinetry and drawer fronts behind the service desks. THINSCAPE TS503 Italian Carrara was used as a half wall and planter box behind the service desk in the gift shop. THINSCAPE was chosen due to its light weight, moisture resistance and it's sleek design.
