One of the charms of lacquer art is the combination of lacquer and various materials. No lacquer appears on the surface of this work, which is made of abalone shells and tin powder. In this case, the lacquer is an adhesive, and the work is a modern interpretation of the traditional techniques of raden (sea shell) and maki-e (maki-e).
