    Xypex Bio-San C500 is a uniquely designed admixture for integral, long-term protection of concrete in harsh sewage conditions with high levels of H2S (hydrogen sulphide) that cause microbial induced corrosion (MIC) which can seriously reduce the service life of concrete sewer structures and wastewater treatment plants.. Bio-San C500 combines potent antimicrobial protection along with the unique crystalline technology of the Xypex Admix C-Series.

    Xypex Bio-San contains bio-active mineral solids that become permanently fixed within the cement matrix impairing bio-film formation thus inhibiting the growth of acid causing sewer bacteria such as Thiobacillus due to high concentrations of H2S. The unique Xypex crystalline technology creates a permanent structure throughout the pores and capillary tracts providing waterproofing and enhanced chemical protection including acid and sulphate resistance. Bio-San C500 prevents microbial induced corrosion, stops infiltration/exfiltration of water, and provides acid and sulphate resistance, significantly extending the service life of concrete sewage collection systems and waste water infrastructure.

    Xypex Bio-San C500 is recommended for use in sewage systems especially in areas where H2S gas is likely to accumulate. This includes sewer lines with long retention times (flat, long, low flow) and sealed or unvented man- holes. It will also include areas of high turbulence such as lift stations, drop structures, force main outflows and head works as well as various areas within wastewater treatment plants.

    Refer to the relevant sections of this data sheet or consult with Xypex's Technical Services Department for assistance in determining the appropriate dosage rate and for further information regarding enhanced chemical resistance, optimum concrete performance (e.g. setting time, compressive strength), or meeting the specific requirements and conditions of your project.

    For ease of use, Xypex Bio-San C500 is packaged in 20 lb. (9.1 kg) pails and 37 lb. (16.8 kg) paper bags. For specific projects, contact the Xypex for availability of custom sized packaging.

      C. Substitutions: No substitutions permitted.

      D. Submission of Alternate or Equal Products:
      1. All requests for considerations of substitutions or equal products must be made at the time of bidding. No requests for consideration of alternates or equals will be considered after the close of the tendering period.

      2. All costs associated with evaluation of any requested substitutions or equals will be paid by the bidder making the request. Costs will be paid before close of tender for the bid to be considered.

      E. Source Quality: Obtain all proprietary antimicrobial crystalline waterproofing products from a single manufacturer.

      2.02 Dosage 
      A. General:
      Xypex Bio-San C500 must be added to concrete mix at time of batching.

      B. Dosage Rate: Under normal conditions, the antimicrobial crystalline powder shall be added to the concrete mix at the following rates:

      1% by weight of cementitious materials content
