Protan Protected (ballasted) warm roof system on concrete substrate

PROTAN PROTECTED WARM ROOF SYSTEM ON CONCRETE SUBSTRATE

The roof is built up on the load-bearing structure with the vapour control layer at the bottom, followed by insulation, Protan membrane and then the ballast on top. The ballast is often pebbles, paving slabs or intensive green roofs. The fall requirements for the construction can be incorporated into the deck substrate or the insulation under the membrane.

A ballasted roof with paving slabs is suitable for situations where foot traffic is expected, such as terraced areas for recreational use or frequent service access. Such roofs are used for both heavy load-bearing structures made of concrete and light load-bearing structures made of sheet steel. The composition principle is the same for both solutions. The heavy structure may be most suited to premises with a high moisture content, for example, while the light structure may be most suited to warehouses and the like. Pebbles may be used as ballast where the foot traffic is limited to minimal maintenance and inspection access only.

For roof structures that are exposed to extra heavy loads, Protan GG Membrane is recommended.

    .CONSTRUCTION STRUCTURE:

    • PROTECTED WITH GRAVEL- /INVERTED- /INTENSIVE GREEN ROOFS
    • PROTAN G / GG MEMBRANE
    • INSULATION
    • VAPOUR CONTROL LAYER
    • CONCRETE SUBSTRATE

    PROTAN G / GGMEMBRANE

    • Protan G membrane is a glass fibre reinforced, microbe durable PVC membrane for gravel ballasted roofs, inverted roofs, and green roofs.
    • Protan G membrane can withstand high and low temperatures and attack by micro-organisms.
    • The membrane is dimensionally stable, which is important in load-bearing applications, inverted roofs, and green roofs.
    • Protan G membrane can withstand high and low temperatures and attack by micro-organisms.
    • The membrane is welded together using hot air.

    SYSTEM INSTALLATION METHOD:

    • Protan G membrane is installed as a loose layer without fasteners securing it to the substrate. Protection layers are required where there is a risk of damage by the layers installed over the membrane.

    INSULATION:

Various types of insulation can be used in combination with Protan membranes and can be flat insulation or sloped insulation. The material type and design will depend on the building design, fire classification and local regulation requirements. The compression strength of the insulation must be considered and chosen to according to the roof application.

    • Mineral wool (MW) – can be glass or stone type
    • Expanded polystyrene (EPS) - a glass separation layer / migration barrier must be used
    • Polyisocyanurate (PIR) - foil faced
    • Combination EPS-MW

    VAPOUR CONTROL LAYER:

    • Polyethylene
    • Bitumen

    CONCRETE SUBSTRATE:

    • Structural concrete as either precast elements or reinforced cast in-situ.
